From the very beginning it was planned that the sequel to the film “Joker” would be in the style of a musical. However, the cinematographer stated that although the film will feature music, it is not a musical itself. This made the idea of the project a little more complicated.
Now, new information has appeared and we can consider “Joker: Folie à Deux” a full-fledged musical.
Joker: Folie à Deux recently had its first test screenings, and those who saw an early version of the Joker sequel are calling it a “jukebox.”
This means that the film is not based on the original songs, but rather re-imagined versions of famous tunes. This type of musical, which includes productions such as “Mamma Mia!” or “Moulin Rouge!”
The film “Joker: Folie à Deux” will feature at least 15 reinterpretations of “famous songs.”
Among them will be “That’s Entertainment,” a song from the 1953 musical “All Over the Stage.” However, in addition to cover versions of already known compositions, one or two original songs may also appear in the film.
There are currently no details about who will be responsible for writing and performing these songs. However, it is known that Hildur Guðnadóttir, who won an Oscar for the soundtrack to the first Joker, is again responsible for the musical accompaniment for the film.
Also Warner Bros. will likely take advantage of the presence of Lady Gaga, who already has three nominations and one Oscar for original songs.

Joker: Folie à Deux will present an updated version of the story of the Joker’s relationship with Harley Quinzel.
The film is directed by Todd Phillips, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Scott Silver. The premiere is scheduled for October 4, 2024.
