Are dark clouds gathering over the new Star Wars film? Reports have emerged confirming that the new film, which would have seen Daisy Ridley reprise her role as Rey, has been cancelled. Bob Iger, head of Disney, is directly responsible for this decision.
Daisy Ridley won’t return as Rey?
It’s been almost a year since Disney announced that Daisy Ridley would be returning as Rey to star in the first film to follow the final trilogy.
We learned about this last April during Star Wars Celebration in London directly from Kathleen Kennedy, head of Lucasfilm.
However, since then the film has been having more and more problems, and while in January it was said that its production was significantly delayed and would most likely not be filmed this year, now there are voices suggesting that Disney has canceled the film entirely!
In January, a source close to Lucasfilm said the new film starring Daisy Ridley had been “delayed indefinitely” due to script issues and an uncertain production status.
Now another source is going even further with their revelations and claiming that the film, tentatively titled The New Jedi Order, has not only been delayed indefinitely, but has simply been canceled by Disney. The title was to be one of the films that the studio quietly scrapped, productions that the company felt weren’t good enough and didn’t believe would succeed.
Disney abandons bad projects
In recent months, the film has encountered another script problem. After Steven Knight was hired to develop a new text, his work was not liked by representatives of the Lucasfilm studio and it received so many comments that the screenwriter had to start work almost from scratch.
This situation reportedly led to disappointment for Knight, who decided to devote his time to another project, which would be a sequel to the Peaky Blinders series.
For now, information about the complete cancellation of the project should be approached with appropriate restraint, but we definitely cannot count on the quick production of a film with Daisy Ridley.
The actress confirmed in a recent interview that she has not yet had a chance to read the script and only knows the general scope of the story.
According to her information, new characters will appear in the film, but she knows nothing about the possible return of characters from previous parts.
So, given that filming was supposed to begin in the fall, and neither the main star nor the director had yet seen the script, this seems unlikely.
